In 1976, people listened to music on a record player and the top songs of the year included Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry, You’re My Best Friend by Queen, and Love to Love you Baby by Donna Summer. Top films of the year included Rocky, Bad New Bears, and Silver Streak.
It was also the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. All across the U.S., this bicentennial year was celebrated. My dad collected some memorabilia during 1976, and continued the collection in the years thereafter. He and my mom would attend flea markets and estates sales like a treasure hunt, seeking interesting and unique artifacts from across the country.
